    Subject: Request for Restoration of Dialysis Equipment Cassette to Original Specifications


    I am writing to express concerns regarding recent changes made to the dialysis equipment cassettes my husband has been using. Both my husband and myself (his wife and care giver), have noticed that the cassette now includes a shorter line, which significantly limits mobility during treatment sessions. This change has impacted his ability to move freely, and follow the steps for hygiene hook up. It is also limiting for bathroom usage. All these are essential for his safty, comfort and quality of life during dialysis.

    We have been please with the service of Fresunius in delivery, and also the 24 hour assistance if we had any problems. Our delivery man, (Willis) is so helpful to arrange the supplies for me as I have back problems and am unable to do this.

    When a grown man begins dialysis in his older years it is a major emotional transistion as well as a physical one. When we first began Pertenial Diaylasis we both felt is was a blessing. The length of the original cassett allowed my husband to move around, go to the bathroom to wash, and use the bathroom, turn on and off the aircondition/heater. With the shorter line all these things are either impossible or a struggle. My husband mental state is that he is teathered, or on a leash. Your new, shorter line has restricted his movements, making sessions far more restrictive in his ability to maintain independance.

    I have called, and made request that you provide or at least offer the equipment that met the original specifications. It made a huge difference in his life. He was able to assist with his own treatment by being able to wash, and use the toilet. His mental state is just as important as his physical and the lace of mobility and independence has caused him harm. Please advise me on what your plans are for the future. I was told you were looking in on this.

    Along with so many others, the apparent change to the long drain cassette has caused significant issues for me. I had ordered the longer length cassettes and was substituted the shorter length. No warning, no notification, just left to figure something out at the last minute. This is BS! My driver didn’t even indicate there was a change. I see my EOBs and for the amount you’re charging you can afford to provide adequate equipment.
